During the last two weeks of May, our fellows of the Salama bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship program embarked on an educational trip to the USA as part of the 1-year program curriculum. This trip is designed to enhance their learning experience and expose them to a range of different types ranging from public art to master pieces housed in museums.
The first couple of days of their educational trip, took place at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Providence. Where the fellows got a chance to visit and tour RISD campus, visit the RISD Museum: Costume and Textile Study Center and meet the Dean of Graduate Studies who spoke about the graduate programs at the School, as well as the process of applying to a US Art & Design school as either a transfer student or for a graduate program. In addition, to attending three days of intensive workshops.
Their New York days were well spent between visiting various museums such as The Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. The fellows also got the opportunity to spend time with established artists by visiting the studios of Michael Joo, Jackie Gendel, Ryan Johnson, Dana Schutz and Tom McGrath.
In addition to all the art related sites and programming the fellows were also able to visit and experience various cultural activities in both Providence and New York.
