WASH in Yemen

In 2014, the Foundation along with MercyCorps collaborated to establish a partnership to provide water sanitation and hygiene facilities for boys and girls in Yemen. The purpose of the program is to enhance water access and sanitation through infrastructure rehabilitation or construction, and hygiene promotion in above 20 schools at Sanaa’s governorates.

The project is currently at its second quarter. Amongst the key activities taken in the first quarter are the following:

  1. Staff recruitment
  2. Preparation and finalization of agreements with Government authorities
  3. Identification of schools in collaboration with the Education Office in Sana’a and Taiz and UNICEF
  4. Meetings with school principals
  5. Baseline assessment for access to water and sanitation facilities in target schools
  6. Technical WASH surveys, baseline assessment, and analysis of ten schools in Taiz Governorates completed
  7. WASH assessment results presented at the Government Education Offices in Sana’a and Taiz
  8. Tender for construction work announced
  9. Two hygiene campaigns on Handwashing and Sanitation in celebration of Global Handwashing
  10. Staff recruitment completed and five day staff training conducted in Sana’a with Taiz and Sana’a teams
