In November, the Foundation began the third cycle of the Salama bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship (SEAF). After a competitive selection process, the Foundation selected 16 talented artists (out of 60 applicants) to join the third class. The class represents artists from a variety of disciplines including painting, photography, illustration, installation, film, and printmaking. They also represent various nationalities including the UAE, Bahrain, Lebanon, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Syria and the USA. This year’s class consists of 14 women and two men.
Over the next year these Fellows will undergo a multi-faceted program, conducted in partnership with the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), which is designed to support them at the earliest stages of their careers. They will experience a suite of academic courses, technical workshops and peer critiques and they will travel to the United States to visit RISD in Providence, Rhode Island and meet with artists in New York City.
The Fellows had their first week of classes in November During which they attended workshops on art theory, sculpture, and creative process.
