In November at the opening of Warehouse421, the Lest We Forget Initiative (LWF) launched its first major exhibition, Lest We Forget: Emirati Family Photographs 1950-1999. The exhibition is a unique exploration of Emirati vernacular photographs through memory and creative expression. For the first time, the public has an opportunity to discover an extensive collection of cherished family photographs and oral histories generated by the first generations of Emirati citizens and responded to by their descendants through contemporary artworks. Within the exhibition, visitors can engage with these photographs through many interactive elements, including videogames and LWF’s archive. LWF also released a companion book to the exhibition under the same title. The book is now available at the boutique in Warehouse421.
Lest We Forget invites those interested in participating in the initiative by contributing family photographs, oral histories and artifacts to the archive located in Warehouse421.
Lest We Forget: Emirati Family Photographs 1950-1999 exhibition will run until the 19th June 2016.
Lest We Forget is an initiative supported by the Foundation to further its interest in supporting innovative approaches to capturing and disseminating Emirati cultural heritage.
